The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations for Clarity, Effectiveness, and Serenity

A beautifully packaged, gifty daily devotional of Stoic wisdom, from the author of The Obstacle is the Way.Modern readers praise Stoic philosophy for its unique blend of practicality and wisdom. But it's admittedly hard for the average reader to decipher the Dover Thrift edition of Marcus Aurelius' work. The antiquated, needlessly formal language of most modern translations ...

Can't believe it has been a year since I bought this book and read it daily. This is an excellent book, which I keep next to my bed and read before I sleep or as soon as I wake up to get me started on the right foot. The daily entries are insightful, impactful and concise. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking to gain some wisdom or someone trying to improve their mindset.

I am glad to have this handy book which was a wonderful introduction to Stoic philosophy. Many people may think that philosophy isn't very relevant because it deals with big abstract questions that don't seem to have firm solutions. Well, Stoic philosophy is different. It is completely based on practical understandings and tools we can adopt to live better lives. A common theme that is returned to time and again is that we must keep our minds on what we can control. This may get tiresome to some ...more

This was the first book I began in 2018, and the last I finished. The one I read the most consistently, yet took all year to finish. The Daily Stoic is a collection of 365 entries, each with a long quotation from a Stoic philosopher and 1-2 paragraphs of explanation and analysis.

This is the first ‘daily wisdom’ book I have read. From 1 January to 31 December, I read each day’s entry. At times I fell 2 or 3 days behind, but almost never more than that. The habit held.

    While I’m sceptical about th

I added ‘read stoic quote’ to my todoist daily list so it will take a year to read this book. That’s how it’s supposed to be read.

But at 30% read the horrific realisation hit me that the year is basically a third DONE and I haven’t done anything!

Also a coincidence that by September the posts mention John McCain and he died a week ago.

In November I followed the Georgia Governor race. Stacey Abrams (a romance author) said after she’d lost through a GOP gerrymander: "I implore you not to give into

Excellent stoic ideas from Seneca, Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius, Zeno, Cato. The Bible for any modern stoic. The book contains examples from modern history when explaining ancient stoic concepts and stoic quotes. A nice book in today's world. Recommended for young and old, irrelevant where you live and what do you do for life.

A really great introduction to Stoic philosophy!

The authors did a great job at making the old texts accessible by using current day language and adding their own interpretations.

The format of one topic/quote per day is very well suited for an introduction to the philosophy. It allows for a good absorption of the material as it’s presented piece by piece, but still bundled logically with a different theme each month.

The daily format also allows for a daily moment of self reflection, which is nice

An excellent, practical series of meditations drawing on Stoic philosophy that guide everyday living in the modern world. Surprisingly relevant. Occasionally, the application of Stoic philosophy seemed to be drawing a long bow but, overall, beneficial advice. Much better than some of the saccharine advice given in some books of daily readings.
