This book is funny! It's more about the practical application of putting out what you expect to get back then about bubble, bubble toil and trouble. Mya Spalter is a refreshing voice that is more like having lunch with a girlfriend.

An amazing book if you are interested in spellcrafting, magic or general metaphysical topics. It covered most of the material I learned in an Intro to ritual class I paid a lot more than this book for and did it in a fun and understandable way. Mya Spalter is very relatable and reading her book feels like talking to a friend. If magic or ritual work intimidates or is new to you definitely read this book. There's also quirky insights from Enchantments the NYC magic shop she works at, so even if y ...more

As a thank you to Netgalley for supplying me with the advanced readers copy of “ Enchantments: A Modern Witch’s Guide to Self-Possession” I am providing my thoughts and an honest review of this text. Coming into this text I figured it would be but another new age book giving information on palmistry, astrology, and more. I was wrong. Sure it offered all those things but did them what I feel was a personal way. Mya Spalters experience shows throughout its pages and is one that feels more of a con ...more

I listened to the audio version read by the author and it was one of the best I've listened to in a long time. Mya Spalter has a unique voice and you can tell she's having fun with her subject. She explains magical logic really well. This is a really great intro for beginners and a fun refresher for everyone else.

This book was well ...Enchanting. A breath of fresh air explaining rituals, spells and magic in clear precise terms that if you can read, you can do. I loved the way she talks about setting up an alter. Using what she finds or has as opposed to taking a huge list and getting everything exactly as some books recommend or you can't be a real witch ( I do the same thing). She covers Wicca and Neo-pagan beliefs and what she goes over can be used no matter who and what you worship. The moon signs, co ...more

I had the pleasure of reviewing this book through NetGalley. My longer review is at my blog. http://www.amberunmasked.com/review-e...

Mya Spalter created an entertaining and budget-friendly look on modern witchcraft. She also laid things bare about working at Enchantments, the oldest witch shop in New York City. She talked about some creepy customers; and was totally honest about why the staff might come off as cold or moody on certain days. Her advice is none other than practical.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I enjoyed this magick take on basics and the wit that just went into the pages of this book was amazing. The advice is practical and humorous at times. I loved the way the book came together and the author shared a lot of herself and that made it worth the read. I have been practicing myself for a several years and this just made me feel good. It has been awhile since I enjoyed a non-fiction book in this category so much.
